Today was another milestone day in Blue Peter's history. At 5.30pm on the CBBC Channel, the 5000th edition of Blue Peter was broadcast live.
The day of celebrations started earlier when current presenter Lindsey Russell was interviewed on the Chris Evans breakfast show on BBC Radio 2. International fashion designer Henry Holland was then introduced. Henry has been commissioned by Blue Peter, to design a limited edition diamond Blue Peter Badge to commemorate the upcoming 60th Birthday. The badge would be unveiled on the 5000th show later in the day. Finally the not so mystery guest a daily feature on the breakfast show was non other than Leila Williams the first female presenter of Blue Peter who spoke about the early days of the programme.

Social media was a buzz with good wishes for Blue Peter throughout the day with many congratulations on the 5000 episodes, fans past and present remembering favourite Blue Peter moments and great excitement about the new badge.
The 5000th programme opened with a mash up of Blue Peter themes and clips past and present and a burst of glitter. A film in classic Blue Peter style saw Lindsey help with maintenance on HMS Belfast including climbing the mast 100 feet above the River Thames. Then a host of famous faces including Steven Spielberg, Tom Hiddleston. Eddie Redmayne and Mary Berry told viewers what the Blue Peter badge means to them.
There was magic music and merriment before finally the diamond badge was unveiled and its a beauty.
Blue Peter has lots more celebrations planned over the coming months as the famous ship sails towards it's 60th Birthday in October.
Maybe not quite 5000 hellos as the first few months of the dreadful first season from editor Tim Levell had the presenters leaving out hello! In attempt to be cool.
